DOT Chairs
2023, Brooklyn NY
Designed and built series of plywood chairs
This series of chairs is a graphic study of shape and structure, inspired by my late father’s button-down shirts. The tailoring, pressed seams, and repetition of buttons, inspired the straight lines and dot cut-outs in different arrangements. On the weekends he swapped his whites and blues for bright colors and fun patterns. He wore his cowboy boots on special occasions. In my childhood home, he broke every chair he sat in.
This study is part of my ongoing work around furniture as a medium for sharing memories and storytelling and understanding the relationship between making and grieving.
