Odds + Ends

BFA Thesis
2019 Exhibition Dean’s Award and Students’ Choice Award.

The junk drawer is a place for odds and ends, necessities and mementos, a collection that over time reflects the person or people it collects from. The box I built and its different components explores the idea of narrative through these collections.

The book Contents contains research related to the project, as well as an index of all the objects in the junk drawers of my childhood home. The top of the box holds a collection of random found and thrifted things that belong to no one, with a looped video of a person emptying and filling a drawer. The viewer can listen to audio about the role these spaces play in our lives, while exploring the elements of the box.
